About Laser Tattoo Removal

Dr. Rosy Sandhu, a board-certified internal medicine physician, leads Neem Medical Spa, located in Boston, Lynnfield, and Winchester, MA. Neem Medical Spa is committed to providing residents of the greater Boston area with rejuvenating and affordable medical spa services, including laser tattoo removal and dermal melasma treatment.

Dr. Sandhu understands the relationship between your physical appearance and your self-esteem, and how an unwanted tattoo or dermal melasma can impact both. Dermal melasma is a cosmetically problematic type of hyperpigmentation. It shows up in dense patches on sun-exposed areas like the cheeks, forehead, upper lip and chin. Unwanted tattoos are ever-present visual distractions that you may also go to great lengths to hide with cumbersome layers of clothing. Why cover up? You can feel great about how you look with the Cutera enlighten for tattoo removal and dermal melasma. Noninvasive treatments with our lasers may be the key to success in restoring evenness and a natural, unblemished appearance to your skin tone.

Ideal Candidates

You may have a number of reasons why you no longer want your tattoo, which can be as simple as "tattoo remorse." Perhaps it reminds you of a difficult memory, lost its color, or just no longer represents who you are. Even if the tattoo seemed like a good idea at the time, that doesn’t mean you have to live with it forever.

Our patients, who have had their dermal melasma treated, or their unwanted tattoos removed, always remark on how liberating the experience is, to be finally free of their dermal melasma or tattoo. Despite the reason, breakthroughs in tattoo removal equipment have helped make it feasible to lighten and maybe even eliminate the unwanted tattoo in its entirety. There are a number of considerations which might improve the success of your laser tattoo removal. Great candidates:

  • Have a strong immune system to assists in the breakdown and elimination of the ink properties.
  • Are healthy.
  • Have vast differences between the ink color and their skin color.

Treatment Technique

As soon as Dr. Sandhu determines that your skin is appropriate for laser tattoo removal, your skin will be prepared with a careful cleansing and an application of a topical anesthetic. A member of our team will begin by passing the laser over your tattooed skin to release laser light and pulsing energy. The time it takes to complete the procedure varies and depends on the size of the tattoo, the type of pigment used, and the age of the tattoo. Your tattoo may require multiple sessions before obvious results are seen. These factors will be discussed during your consultation.

What to Expect

At the end of each laser tattoo removal session, a topical cream will be applied to your skin along with bandages to protect the area. You can expect redness, swelling, and sensitivity. You might also feel like you have a sunburn and experience minor scabbing. It's important to adhere to aftercare instructions carefully to speed up the recovery process. Once the area is ready, your next session may be scheduled. We do not recommend scheduling sessions sooner than 4 – 7 weeks apart.
