About Microneedling with PRP

Microneedling and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) together can decrease the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, scars, age spots, large pores, and other skin conditions at an accelerated rate. If you’re looking for facial rejuvenation using your body’s own plasma, the PRP with microneedling facial can produce the collagen restoration and skin cell turnover you need to create a more youthful appearance.

The feel of your skin may be significantly enhanced to look smoother and more even in tone. If you'd like to find out more about microneedling with PRP, schedule a private consultation with board-certified internal medicine physician Dr. Rosy Sandhu. Neem Medical Spa serves residents in the greater Boston, MA area, by providing effective medical spa services utilizing the latest technologies (like microneedling with the SkinPen and PRP). Our skilled aestheticians will deliver customized treatments to meet the specific needs of every patient. We have three office locations in Boston, Lynnfield, and Winchester, MA.

Ideal Candidates

A fitting candidate for microneedling with PRP is any individual seeking to alter the look or feel of the top layer of their skin. Uneven skin tone, dry skin, coarse texture, loose skin, age spots, acne, wrinkles and scarring are skin conditions which may benefit from a microneedling with PRP therapy. This procedure may also be utilized for anti-aging benefits, sun damage, textural issues, or hyperpigmentation. It is also ideal for candidates who have scars. PRP with microneedling can encourage the skin to grow new collagen and tissue, which will produce a fresh facial appearance which lasts for weeks.

Treatment Technique

Before the microneedling portion of your session, a member of our team will take a sample of your blood for your PRP collection. The blood will then be transferred to our laboratory for the separation process during which the platelets, growth factors, and viable cells can be turned into PRP. This step takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.

Using minimal acupuncture needles (called a SkinPen), the plasma is spread across your face in a series of injections. The needles will not harm your skin but instead help stimulate the creation of collagen. The PRP serum will be deeply infused within the epidermis. When the microneedling with PRP is finished, we will cleanse the skin.

What to Expect

After your procedure, you could encounter some minor side effects such as swelling, bruising, and redness. Dr. Sandhu recommends avoid using makeup, cleansing with exfoliating face washes, or swimming in pools for at least three days following the treatment. These activities will expose your skin to strong bacteria or chemicals, which will cause negative skin responses. You also need to stay out of the sun and use protective measures when you are outdoors. Full results are usually noticed within the first month as the skin begins to heal itself.

You may also feel a slight stinging sensation on your skin (reminiscent of a sunburn). Despite the redness, you are free to return to regular activities if you feel comfortable in doing so. You will be given an aftercare cream to apply before bed following the procedure.
